New formatting on the title so you can actually see what page your on from a browser tab. Web developer for 8+ years and I decided to go with /friday-and-whatnot-*editionNumber-*editionName for a permalink structure. Genius moves man. So yeah, if you see the URLs changing around in the coming weeks, thanks for paying close attention. Any feedback welcome.

I’ve played poker with some high school friends over Hangouts a few times this past month. It’s a self-hosted server one of the guys spun up, but it turned out to be pretty feature-rich. Top of the list: 4 Color Deck. Although its usefulness is somewhat diminished in a single table setting, it just makes the online table feel natural.

I was happy to learn after the game that the 4 color decks from Copag were available on Amazon. We got one for the house and sent one to Nguyen as well, for he is a person with good taste and a foundation in clicking buttons for money.

The cover today features the new deck, obviously. Not as obvious was how thoroughly Stacey schooled me in the pictured hand. I was playing my over cards + open-ended straight draw like the nuts on the flop, then she turned the Steel Wheel (A-2-3-4-5 spades). Nice moves bro, $0 equity all-ins FTW.

At the Drive-In “Transatlantic Foe”

Big Chavez and I agreed, this is the best ATDI track. There are lots of gems to choose from, but damn, this is a great one. I’ve never owned a pair a Savions, I’m pretty TRu is the only one I’ve know who has. He probably woulda offered em to me for 80% retail because we were friends.

I never got the chance to see At The Drive-In in concert. I was into “One Armed Scissor” like any other kid listening to college radio in the early 2000s, but wasn’t fortunate enough to catch a show before their 2001 breakup. I did however get to see the drummer from a college bar rock band do a rad solo version of the song on guitar played with a drumstick. That dude was awesome and he really appreciated that CSmith and I were rocking out and singing/yelling along.

On this track I always thought he was saying “I’ll stick with you”, but turns it was actually “How steep we are”. Trying making those sound the same without hearing the song. I did actually hear these ones correctly

Pet sounds filling pet peeve voids
Black and white TV with the sound turned down
Is this mono or stereo?

At The Drive-In

Sparta “Cut Your Ribbon”

This song has strong Snake boarding in the Smirnoff parking lot with BennyD vibes. I remember we were tailgating with some friends, Ben tearing it up on the snake board, while we listened to the opening bands. The headliner was Jimmy Eat World during that Bleed American period they were touring like mad with the bands were into. Sparta thankfully didn’t open with this one, otherwise we woulda missed it.

…And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead “Another Morning Stoner”

A poker playlist essential. The guitar part is like the countdown to a guided meditation. I used this one to focus in and find a flow. The is as a good as their name is incredible. Some refer to them as Trail of Dead of T.o.D., but those lack the elegance of leading with characters that put you at the top alpha sorted listed and taking forever to read when Marqueing across the winamp display.
