I’ve known Dillinger Four as the hard-rocking punk band from the midwest with the amazing song titles. The one that sticks out the most after all these years was from the Rock Against Bush vol. 2 soundtrack, “Like Spreewells on a Wheelchair”. It was always short phrases like that, with little to no context, that would tickle my brain. I’m still sitting here picturing what kind of “spinners” would be optimal for a wheelchair were I ever to need one.
Some other great song title include:
“Sell the House Sell the Car Sell the Kids Find Someone Else Forget It I’m Never Coming Back Forget It”
“Americaisapremierefaithbasedinitiative”
“D4 = Putting the “F” Back in ‘Art’.”
“Like Eye Contact in an Elevator”
“Parishiltonisametphor”
Dillinger Four “Doublewhiskeycokenoice”
Speaking of song titles, let us not forget the classic “Doublewhiskeycokenoice”. This would be the first hit from D4 I heard, and it stuck with me. Enough that The Hold Steady’s “Constructive Summer” instantly became a favorite of mine as soon as he dropped the line “Me and my friends are like / Doublewhiskeycokenoice”. (He and is his friends are also like the drums on “Lust of Life”, shouts to Iggy Pop).
Dillinger Four “!! Noble Stabbings !!”
It was a pleasure to lookup the lyrics to this song, as it navigated me to the presumably original and definitely still live OFFICIAL DILLINGER FOUR WEBSITE. Which can be found on Angelfire. Yes, with the lovely angelfire URL and the MN subfolder prepending it: http://www.angelfire.com/mn/dillingerfour/
It’s like a shot when you realize,
Dillinger Four
Destroying yourself is not a compromise
Dave Hause “Minimum Wage is a Gateway Drug”
We hinted at great covers from Dave Hause (The Loved Ones) in last week’s edition, and here he is again. I get the feeling I’d love to hear Dave DJ his favorite songs for hours, although I don’t think that is a thing. It makes me really regret not making it out to those “Reunion Tour” shows with Dave, Chuck Ragan, Brian Fallon, and others. Philip encouraged me to go, hate that I didn’t listen.
I asked for nothing,
Dillinger Four
and I got it in spades
