This won’t be a biographical post, it’s simply a reference to the chorus of the second selection. I’ve got some of that new new for today’s Friday and whatnot. Each of the songs were released within the past few weeks and add a freshness to my regular playlist.
Joyce Manor “Gotta Let It Go”
No surprise here, Joyce Manor coming with fun guitar parts, catchy melodies and intensely good vocals. They don’t take long to start or finish this rocking track.
The video is a great compliment to the song. Joyce Manor is playing at a house party that looks pulled from the 70s. The décor, the suits, the hair, it’s just great. It made me almost miss being around people at a concert, almost. But yeah, no.
JER “Clout Chasers”
I’m never sure how they have the time, but the highly anticipated first album from JER dropped this week. They’re getting the heavy praise they deserve across the SkaTwitterverse. The first pressing of Bothered / Unbothered already sold out in a few days, but you can pick up the second pressing at the Bad Time Records store now.
My favorite parts of the video:
- The 90s colors and stylings
- The interview
- Climbing to #1 on the Billboard Hot 69
- Dope trombone solo into a half time breakdown
- The ending where they count down and yell “F*ck Clout Chasers” and JER interjects “but like not the song, go stream that sh*t”
Phife Dawg “To Live Forever feat. Pos of De La Soul, Little Brother, and Darien Brockington”
This stellar track is graced with some legends of hip-hop. Anytime you can get a member of De La on a record, you’re starting strong. Layer in a back and forth with Phonte and Rapper Big Pooh of Little Brother to keep the middle moving. Add some soulful bars from Darien Brockington to balance it out. Then close it out with a speech from Phife Dawg himself. A classic tribute to one of the best to do it.
Already in foul trouble and the game just started,
Phonte
Take a step back before your heart Hardens
I would have preferred a Luka step back reference, but it’s hard to make Dončić into a coherent verb.
